The truly smallest house in Amsterdam

Google ‘small house’ Amsterdam, and you’ll be met with stories about the smallest house in Amsterdam – a gift shop/ tea room. Which undeniably, usually is the smallest house in Amsterdam…

However, we’re not here to talk about that one today. We wanted to bring your attention to an art installation by Leonard van Munster called ‘Nail house’. Which is considerably smaller than the one pictured above😛.

If you have seen the Pixar movie Up!, it’ll probably remind you of that, and the inspiration behind it isn’t too far away from the movie plot either.

This work represents protest and resistance, but also desire. It is reportedly inspired by citizens in China who don’t want to give way to the plans of project developers. At night, the light is lit from behind the curtains and the laundry blows in the wind.

You will find the installation on Weteringschans, next to Paradiso, which is super close to Leidsplein. We’re not sure how long it’s there for, so make sure to check it out if you’re in the area, and don’t forget to tag us in any pictures you take!
